Describe your piece and your thoughts behind it.
My piece is several 3D printed animals strung from a tree to create a since of cohesion and stillness. Did it turn out how you first planned or did the idea change as you worked on it? It turned out close to what I wanted, I would've liked to print more birds but I didn't realize how long they take to print. What made you choose to do a piece like that? I chose to make my piece from 3D printed animals because I haven't used my printer much and wanted to familiarize myself with it. Does your piece have a deep meaning? If so, what is it? If not, what feeling does your work evoke? My piece was just meant to be something to look at, and its meant to evoke weightlessness like the floating humming birds.

Describe: I used a plastic bowl to form the shape of my pot. I then used coils to fill the bowl and create the sides.
Analyze: My piece uses form to create a container, but could've come out more colorful. Interpret: I feel that my piece was not as colorful as I was expecting it to be. Judge: Do you feel you were successful in your piece/s? Why or why not? I feel that my piece was not very uniform and could've come out more colorful. I also feel that the piece was unsuccessful from the crack in the bottom of it :(.
Describe: Describe your piece as if you were talking to someone on the phone.
I would describe my piece as smooth like the painting it is based off of. It has layers and the handle is sharp like the light cuts through the water and air in the painting. Analyze: Explain your process to make this piece. To make this piece i tried to do the best I could to incorporate the painting it's based off of which is difficult because it is moving a 2D concept into a 3D medium. I used a slab of clay then stitched it together to create the 3 prongs and the cup. Interpret: How is your piece inspired by the NCMA piece? My piece is inspired by the NCMA piece because the base represents the volcano in the background of my piece and I will glaze light sunset colors onto the cup to create the same effect the painting did. Judge: Do you feel like your piece is inspired by the NCMA artwork is successful why or why not? I feel like once the piece is glazed and finished it will seem inspired by my NCMA piece because it keeps the color and the shape of what was depicted in the painting.
Describe:
The process I used to make this piece was tedious. I made a slab of clay by throwing clay down onto a table in order to flatten it out. After I made the slab I put it on top of a plate with cling wrap then cut off the excess. Next I added underglaze then carved a whale design into the plate with a surrounding pattern. Analyze: I wanted my piece to be rather dark but I used contrast to help form the shape of the whale and to create an interesting pattern around the whale. I spaced the lines out to look like seashells and create an ocean theme to the plate. Interpret: I picked a whale because I felt it would be a simple and elegant design to put onto a plate. I balanced the black and white out by using patterns and carving to make the piece around 60 40 black and white. Judge: This project was difficult for me because my plate would keep breaking everytime it dried and it was hard to start over 4 times and still be excited to work on it. I think the piece looks like what I envisioned but I know I could've spent a little bit more time being more presiece with the seashell pattern that surrounds the whale. Describe:
I started by making a hollow sphere and begun to shape it into the shape of the head. I then added details to the head to make it more realistic and closer shaped to the real thing. Finally I added texture by roughing up the head and using wet clay to add to the head. Analyze: I used texture by taking wet clay and putting it on the head and kept moving it while it dried. Interpret: I picked a seahorse because It was a simi-simple shape with an interesting texture and they are a fascinating animal. Judge: I think the piece looks good and will look better when it is colored with glaze. I like how the texture turned out on this piece. I do think I could've improved the way the eyes look, they are more defined on real seahorses. Is your piece successful? Personally, I think I did the best I could on this piece and after it is glazed I think It will look really interesting. I think the project was fun, it allowed for some creativity and expression to the artists. 4 Forms; Added Relief, Added Relief, Random Object, Carved Relief. Describe: Describe your piece as if you were on the phone. How would you describe it?
I would describe my piece as a small geode with cracks and holes in it showing the crystals on the inside. Analyse: Explain your process. How did you make it? (pretend you are talking to someone not in the class) I made the pinch pot by making coils of clay and connecting them together into a shape of a sphere. After I made the sphere I let it dry a little and carves out the holes in the stone. Once the holes were cut then I smoothed out the stone's exterior and created texture in the interior. Interpret: How did you show your theme of line, texture, pattern, or shape/form? I showed my form by using texture and shaping the clay into a shape that resembles the stone I am trying to create. Judge: Do you feel your piece is successful, why or why not? I feel that the piece was successful and it will look much more like a stone once it is fired then glazed. |
