(Art skills, meaning, creative, realistic) Piece CritiqueIn my linocut piece I called "Bugatti" I had to follow a theme which was "lines". In my early planning stages I wanted to incorporate that theme into the body of the car. I did know that there was a Bugatti that had a body option called a full exposed carbon body. A full exposed carbon body mean that body panels of the car are not painted and the material underneath is exposed. The material that Bugatti uses as its body panel material is carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is billions of threads of carbon weaved together to make a extremely strong material. So I then decided that would be what I would base the Bugatti in my stamp on. I then started with my stamp and thought I should Work methodically to get the best end result. I sketched my idea several times in order to insure that I would have everything on the stamped I wanted. With my sketch done I began to work with the actual stamp I looked through all of my tools and looked at which blades would do the tasks I needed. With the first blade in my hand I began to carve out small pieces tracing the pencil on the piece. During this stage of cutting out and forming the shape of the car I wish I had spent more time by being careful to leave more space for detail. I say I wish I left space because if you look at the finished product you can see that there are some cuts into the roof and windshield of the car. I then after cutting out the basic shape add more detail and cut out the final shape including the carbon fiber on the body panel. If iI look back at the linocut project I feel that I could have done better on some of the steps, I also put in a lot of work and effort to get to the result I did get. If I was to judge my artwork I would say it was very successful because It came out looking great and it holds a lot of meaning because I want to be able to grow up and own some exotic car whether that is a Bugatti or something else. Pros: I really enjoyed making a piece have physical depth to it, it gave me an idea how shadows really work. I also have fun with the shadow making process on the paper where you would sketch your original piece.
Cons: I didn't like that I had to do my name and I wish I could to a shape with interesting shadows and patterns. I feel that with any shape students could be more creative. Process: First I used 2 sheets of paper one to cut out strips of paper and another for the base to tape the paper to. I then used a third paper once i had made my name out of the other two. I used the third paper to draw my original papers. Pros: I really enjoyed working with the cardboard and trying to make something 3D out of flat cardboard. It was really fun to try and work out an image in my head and then to try and recreate it with cardboard.
Cons: I had a difficult time trying to cut out cardboard because of its toughness. I proved to be difficult when cutting with scissors so i ended up using a box cutter. Process: The process was a sketch of the helmet that I wanted to create. In order to create the round helmet structure. Once I had made a basic helmet shape I worked on making it a more defined shape and added tape to give color and uniformity.
1. Who did you do a portrait of? What is your relationship to them? (8pts) The portrait is a old picture of my grandfather. I never met my grandfather but he looks a lot like me.
2.What medium did you use? (8pts) For my medium i used modeling clay 3.Explain your process start to finish. (8pts) I started with the eyes and added features over time. 4. What do you find successful and what might you change if you were to complete it again? (8pts) I found the clay to be hard to work with so i might change my medium in the future and I would also add two ears to my next portrait to add to realism. Since completing the in-process blog post what has been your process since? Use vocabulary: glaze, paint, glaze-ware, finish, and fire?
My piece has been glazed and fired to give the piece a glossy finish. What do you find successful about the finished piece? I found that i made a good shape and size of my piece to give it lots of storage space. What would you have changed if you were to do it again? I probably would have changed how I glazed the top of my piece to make the color more solid. My piece shows off the theme of line because in the body of the car I made small cuts to show carbon fiber body work which is thousands of tiny strands of carbon twisted together.
I do think my piece is successful because the end product or stamp really shows what I had in my head. I do thing I could have tried to make some of the parts more uniform and less messy. I also think that I could have left more of the background and added in some lines there as well.
